AgroBiotech Symposium - Yann Gohon: “Living in extreme environments”

The AgroBiotech Symposium - Yann Gohon took place on February 5th at the Agro Paris-Saclay Campus. This event received financial support from SPS.

On this occasion, around 50 students, researchers and lecturers gathered to discuss the theme “Living in Extreme Environments”.

The program featured scientific presentations by experts from across France, covering various topics related to the biology of extremophile organisms, including plants. The speakers were delighted to share their research, and the audience was fascinated by the richness and diversity of the topics. Lively discussions followed the presentations, encouraging exchanges between speakers and participants and providing an opportunity to discuss and appreciate each other's work.

This conference is organized each year by the Agrobiotech Association, which brings together students from AgroParisTech's BIOTECH specialized track, with the support of the teachers.

Each edition focuses on a different scientific theme. This year's theme was inspired by a student visit to a laboratory producing active ingredients for cosmetics. On this topic, Timéo Hennebelle (president of the Agrobiotech Association) explains:

"The idea came up during a visit to the Sederma/Croda Beauty laboratories, where exotic and extremophile organisms were presented as a valuable source of metabolic and molecular creativity. Moreover, I've always been fascinated by the diversity of these organisms, which remain relatively unknown to the general public and underrepresented in biology education."

This edition was dedicated to Yann Gohon, an AgroParisTech professor who passed away in November 2023, whose scientific and human commitment deeply impacted the students.

By financially supporting the event, SPS confirms its commitment to scientific events with an educational purpose, which help to bring research and students closer together.
