STIMULUS

Parietal degradation during the selection of corn fodder in France - study of biochemical and histological parameters (STIMULUS)

SPS’innov project selected in 2016

Coordination: Matthieu Reymond / Valérie Méchin

Industrial partners: Limagrain Europe, Euralis semences, RAGT2n, Caussade semences, KWS, Maïsadour semences, Monsanto

Stimulus aims at phenotyping a set  of representative silage maize hybrids (x47) representative of the history of selection since the last 50 years in France at the biochemical and histological levels. Hybrids originating from all the partners have been studied. As far as we know, Stimulus is the first study that shows a stagnation (even an increase) of UFL values since the late 2000, UFL being the criterion taken to register silage hybrid maize in France in 1998. This evolution is going hand by hand with the evolution of cell wall degradability.  Biochemical and histological variations obtained are being correlated to cell wall degradability in order to identify key parameters involved in the commercialized hybrids evolution since 50 years.
