The use of root-associated microbial communities to improve plant tolerance to abiotic stresses, including drought, is attracting more and more attention in the last years. The seminar will offer an overview of recent research aimed at verifying the role of beneficial soil fungi, such as the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, to enhance plant tolerance to environmental stresses, giving attention to the mechanisms involved in this improvement.
